Long Island Counties, Towns, and Villages Long Island is comprised of four counties: Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, and Kings (more commonly called Brooklyn). Generally, when people talk about Long Island, they are referring to Nassau and Suffolk Counties only, as we will here. Nassau County is made up of three towns: Hempstead, North Hempstead, and Oyster Bay. There are also two cities in Nassau County: Glen Cove and Long Beach. Suffolk County includes ten towns: Babylon, Brookhaven, East Hampton, Huntington, Islip, Riverhead, Shelter Island, Smithtown, Southampton, and Southold.
